How is this for frustrating. One of my sisters - Mim who owns Beach Avenue Bed and Breakfast and who will be bringing an authentic Academy Award to the Academy Award fundraiser at the Tower club in 2008, has my 95 year old Dad in the car and is trying to get out of Grays Harbor County. They are using the “we need to get this old guy to medical help” to pass by barriers to exiting Aberdeen along one lane roads and blocked highways with trees, debris and water. Another sister, Brenda is holed up at her son’s and his new wife and three month old baby’s house heating bottles on a BBQ. They are reading the bible by candlelight and concerned that they can’t leave Aberdeen. The only communication is cell phones and without electricity to re-charge, they are using them sparingly. No TV, No Heat, No lights, NO radio - it’s like they are isolated over there.
I feel like relatives in New Orleans must have felt. Just get here and we can take care of you - but what if you couldn’t leave?
I drove my Hybrid through a foot of water and hopefully didn’t do too much damage. Southpark was flooded over by Hwy 99, but dry and clear close to the river. Say what you want, but diverting the Duwamish (aka Green, White and Black rivers), it just doesn’t flood any more. I can remember my Aunt and Uncle in Ken getting flooded one year and a skunk family washed up under their home. Even though they had the home completely re-done, cleaned, new paint etc, you could always smell the skunk aroma. How powerful is that?
