My son, Dr. Monte R. Johnson (an assoc. prof. at Univ.Calif.San Diego) and daughter Mollie G. Johnson (a yoga instructor in Santa Monica) joined me in Hawaii for a pre-holiday vacation. We stayed right on Waikiki, the last hotel on the strip before entering the Park, Zoo and Diamond Head. Out our window on the beach we watched the outdoor movies and surfers. Monte and Mollie are both beginning surfers so I spent time on the beach taking movies of them surfing. Monte had a new underwater, digital movie camera and once they got the hang of the waves, they were able to take the camera on the boards. Talk about home movies. All the rest of the holidays, whenever we had a visitor - out would come the laptop with the movies! One friend, Matt Cekosh who normally spends his time in the Arctic commented: “Yes, this feels like Christmas, come to the Johnsons, pour some single-malt and watch home movies”!! (just a warning)
As soon as we returned it was off to Pacific Beach for Christmas at Sister Mim’s Bed and Breakfast and over 50 assorted relatives (from 6months to 95). What a bonfire! The adult-children (can’t call them kids anymore) found lots of driftwood left over from the storms earlier in the month and built a huge bonfire. It was a beautiful day and even low tide so many clam diggers warmed their hands at our fire also. We spent the time between Xmas and New Years walking around Seattle enjoying the Market, Capital Hill, Belltown, Pioneer Square, Cinerama, shopping, people and light watching - what a great place to live! I checked out the 5th and Madison Condos and hope to live there someday.
It seemed like this year’s holiday season lasted at long time and it has been difficult to get back into the work mode. I’ve written down all the tasks I need to accomplish, all the goals I want to achieve and now it is time to put it into play - starting with the networking event on the 16th.
My goal with social networking and face-to-face networking is to compare the two and see if they compliment each other or determine if one is better than the other. Like all marketing - you get out of it as much as you put in.
